History of KiMs
This brand started in the early 1960’s in Odense, Denmark. A marzipan factory in Odense wanted to produce a product for the whole year, because marzipan is mainly sold in the winter season. That is when they came up with the idea of producing salted peanuts. These salted peanuts needed a different brand name than Odense Marcipan, since it was a totally different product. They came up with the name Kim, but then they found out that there existed a cigarette brand in Germany with the same name and they adjusted the name into KiMs. In 1965 the new brand name was born. KiMs salted Peanuts were their first product and still today that is one of the bestsellers. Over the years their range of products started to grow and now they offer a large variety of chips, snacks, nuts, dip and chocolate. Who is Jørgen?
Almost every Dane knows who Jørgen is, because they grew up with him on the television screen since 1990. Jørgen is the man that appeared in all the KiMs commercials. KiMs was the first company in Denmark who started commercials with a story telling style. At that time it was not proven yet that storytelling works for advertisement. But not much later they discovered it worked. Because of Jørgen the brand became a big hit on the Danish snack tables. The man behind the character Jørgen is Henning Jacobsen. He is from Samsø and worked as a plumber. A few years ago Henning Jacobsen retired after a 23 years long career as Jørgen. A new character Tommy took over and is working on becoming as famous as Jørgen.
