In fact, Havarti is an old Danish word from the Viking Age - avarti, which means a flourishing, lush breed. Perhaps it is no coincidence that the character of the cheese can just be described as creamy, lush and aromatic. With its mild and sour taste, Havarti has long been one of the most popular cheeses on the market.
Havarti has a characteristic mild and sour taste with a discreet fullness. It is soft but still cutable, as its "al dente" texture completes. If Havartien is allowed to ripen, the mild and slightly sour taste is replaced by a sharper characteristic taste of hazelnut.
One of the most popular Havarti types is the so-called Cream Havarti, a version with extra cream that produces a softer and more luxurious cheese that melts the cream in the mouth.
