History of Odense Marcipan
The journey of Odense Marcipan started in Odense. This is a city on the island of Fyn, Denmark. A man called Lauritz Thobo Carlsen bought a small marzipan factory in the city, where he started to produce large quantities of marzipan for bakers and confectioners. Mass production of fresh marzipan was his concept. Back in those days it was a lot of work to produce marzipan, because of the manual work. They didn’t have the machines that they use today. In the 1950’s they started to export their Odense Marcipan products. Around this time Odense Nougat was introduced as well. In 1961 they started deliver to the Royal Danish Court. In 1991 the company was taken over by the Norwegian food conglomerate ORKLA. From the year 2000 the company expands so much that it becomes one of the largest marzipan manufacturers in the world. Following cooperation was created called the Odense Group, which consists of several companies/brands that work together. This group is part of ORKLA, which is the largest distributor of branded goods in the Nordic regions.
