The history of Castus
The jouney started back in 1952 where a Danish man named Henry Smidt started making his own cold cuts in his kitchen at home. He began with an all-natural figs cold cut. He used his kitchen machine to cut bread with for cutting figs in slices and then he used his iron to make them stick together a bit better. And from that moment the well-known ‘figenpålæg’ was born. His ambition was and still is to make a 100% natural product that tastes amazing just as it is. Because of the pure ingredients that he uses for making his products he came up with the name Castus. The name Castus means ‘purity’ in Latin. Castus products are made for young and old, but especially Scandinavian kids eat them frequently. You will see them often in their lunchboxes at school as a little healthy treat after they finished their piece of rye bread (rugbrødsmad).
Only natural ingredients
Castus mission was and is to create a healthier alternative to an easy unhealthy snack. You can eat it as a snack or integrate it in your lunchbox. It doesn’t matter what you are doing or where you are going, Castus is always the best choice. Castus is 100% natural. If it is not found in nature, it is not found in their products. Their products do not contain any added sugar, are rich in fiber and are made without preservatives.

The products of Castus come in many different variants and flavors. Let’s start with their first made product: Fruit cuts with figs aka ’frugtpalæg med figen’. This product is made to put on a piece of bread. After this product became a hit, they also started to produce different flavors like: Fruit cuts with a nut mix aka ‘frugtpalæg med nøddemix’, Fruit cuts with strawberry aka ‘frugtpalæg med jordbær’, Fruit cuts with blueberry aka ‘frugtpalæg med blåbær’, Fruit cuts with cocoa aka ‘frugtpalæg med kakao’ and the organic version of Fruit cuts with figs aka ’frugtpalæg med figen’. They also offer the same product in a roll form called ‘frugtrulle’, those are made for people who like to cut and decide themselves how big of a piece to put on their bread. Fruit and vegetables that kids are crazy about
Castus Grinebidder are fun characters made from dried vegetables and fruits. They come in several different flavors, all in different types of shapes and each individual bags. This one is particularly fun to eat for young kids, as well as: Frugt spaghetti. These rolls of spaghetti are fun to play with while eating. The newest member of the Castus family is Kugleskør. This product has been developed on the basis of familiar tastes that all children know. Kids know these flavors from for example ‘fredagsslik’ or birthday parties. So far they produced: Kugleskør Choko-Banankage, Kugleskør Kanelgiffel, Kugleskør Romkugle and Kuleskør Drømmekage. How delicious do they sound! And last but not least: ‘Frugtfiduser’.
